After over 42 years in the piano business, the owners of a prominent Columbia music store announced today that they are closing their doors forever. A complete liquidation of all pianos will take place at Hannah Piano, 6169 St Andrews Rd, in the Seven Oaks Shopping Center in Columbia, SC.

Owners Leonard and Lynn Hannah are retiring after enjoying illustrious careers in the piano business for nearly a half century, including 17 years in Columbia. Leonard began in the piano business in 1965 in Raleigh, NC with Pearson Music, rising to store manager. He purchased Maus Piano Company in 1979, and became one of Baldwin’s top ten dealers in the country. Maus Piano is still a very successful piano store being run by Leonard’s son Michael and his grandson Zachery. Lynn has been a highly sought out consultant for piano dealers and has traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada assisting dealers in doing both piano sales and teaching methods for adults. Lynn developed a very popular teaching method for Baldwin Piano Company called Play For Fun, and is still teaching adults to play in the Columbia area.

Lynn was chosen by Yamaha Piano Company to teach group piano lessons called “Passport to Music” on the prestigious Crystal Cruise lines for 7 years, while traveling in Europe, Turkey, and Morocco, among other places all over the globe. The Hannah’s have been invited by major piano manufacturers, including Yamaha, Kawai, Pearl River and Baldwin to be their guests on reward trips to Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan and China.

In the past 17 years in Columbia, Hannah Piano has provided thousands of pianos for home, schools and churches, as well as music lessons and recital space. Leonard Hannah, President of the company leaves the business with a great deal of gratitude. “We appreciate all those who have purchased from our company over the past years and the many continued friendships we have made” he stated. Lynn will greatly miss the piano teacher and adult student friends she has made over the years.
